It is found in a studyi conducted on the bones of the Roman gladiators that they drank a kind of an energy drink made of a mixture of vinegar and plant ashes. In October 28th, 2014, Rossella Lorenzi 's news from ABN Science was released. Accordingly, Fabian Kanz from the Vienna School of Medicine did research on the skeletons they found in Ephesus.
The researches made on 53 skeletons (22 belong to the gladiators) 1800 year old show that gladiators mostly had plants / vegetables on their diets. That’s why the gladiators were called HORDEARII (barley eater). The bones of gladiators, strontium found in ash is shown as proof of the elements of such a beverage.
